Before I met you,
silence was just silence.
Words just words.

Now, silence became a song.
Words, silence.
Life, a Dance.

But sometimes, I forget.
Round and round
I wander
in a circle
trying to find it’s center.

Stop.
Breathe.
Focus.

Unearth the illusion,
to unearth the truth
that was already inside you
all the time.

Allow the illusion’s pain move
through you,
then out of you.

Maybe, one day,
I don’t need to remember.
Maybe, one day,
I’ll know:

I                       YOU
AM                  ARE
YOU.               ME.

I

AM.

Additional Thoughts

People who know me might know this, but for everyone else – I’m not pointing to a romantic love story. “YOU” stands for the divine / love / god / awareness / freedom / oneness / insert your favorite word. “I” stands for the separate self. This poem is about how the two slowly merge together.

This poem also points to some important things I want to emphasize. It’s that

– on the outside, things may not change, but during this journey, the internal can fundamentally change. The external (friends, workplace, relationships, where you live, etc.) may have to change with it, but not necessarily, depending on your specific life circumstances. It’s also not about laziness in a sense that we become non-active.

– human beings will be tested over and over again on this path and are likely to fall back into illusion and unconsciousness, especially in the beginning. That’s why this path is WORK. The poem points to the importance of stopping and coming back to awareness to shine a light on the ego beliefs that we still buy into. A lot of humans are in a lot of pain, so allowing this pain and let it release in this way is crucial.

– a longing can initially push someone to go further on their spiritual path and to commit to inner work. So does pain and suffering. In fact, a lot of people come to the spiritual path because of suffering. Coming to the point where we start to acknowledge and accept that we are in a lot of suffering allows us to go further.

– we are not arriving at a special destination. The “I AM” in the end points to a simple truth we come to realize. That we just are, and life is. Not a special part of life, a spiritual part of life, the fun and roses and bliss part of life, but ALL of life just IS.
